Well, actually my journey began in July 2009 when I attended an informational meeting about gastric bypass and lapband surgery at a local hospital. That's when I learned more about the lap band procedure and started researching it and other surgical weight-loss procedures. The lap band surgery seemed like something I could manage, although the speed of loss with gastric bypass is very enticing, I decided to focus on the longterm outcomes and the changes to my health, not just the pounds lost.
I spent the next few months flip-flopping about the surgery and researching programs like Pritikin and the 20/30 Plan. I must stay that I found some lovely recipes in the 20/30 plan book and Pritikin seems to have a drastic-ly positive effect on health indicators. By January I committed to the surgery and so here I am today -- April 23 2010 -- with approval from the insurance company to have lap band surgery. It should happen sometime in May, depending on my doctor's schedule.
Next I'll post on what it feels like to be overweight so that when I've plateau'd in my weightloss, I will have a place to go back to and read and scare the pants off of me. :)
